Nonviolent Peaceforce acknowledges with gratitude the work of J. Michael Cavitt, a member of the Minneapolis South Rotary Club, who has been mentoring NP returned peacekeepers in the process of applying for Rotary World Peace Fellowships.
Michael was District 5950 (Minneapolis, western and central Minnesota) Chairman of Rotary World Peace Fellowships. His deep understanding of how to help high quality peace makers from around the world tell their story allows them to effectively compete for a Fellowship for a Masters Degree in peace and conflict studies. He has assisted returned Peacekeepers in writing their essays and in finding Rotary Clubs around the country to review and consider nominating them for these fellowships at Rotary Peace Centers around the world.
Michael is owner of Cavitt Associates, where he works with for-profit management teams, business owners and sales professionals who are struggling to have enough referrals. Michael also works to help nonprofits get better results as Yay Team!.
Fellows are chosen from countries and cultures around the globe based on their ability to have a significant, positive impact on world peace and conflict resolution during their careers.
Muhamed Butera Mpira is Nonviolent Peaceforce’s first Rotary Peace Fellow. He is currently studying at International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan. He is a returned peacekeeper from NP Sri Lanka and served to help establish the frist team in what is now South Sudan. Muhamed is from Rwanda.
Rotary Peace Fellows study at Rotary Peace Centers in Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand; Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan; University of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England; University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia; and Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden.
In January, Rotary will be recruiting applicants for the next round.
