Human Trafficking -- Minnesota and South East Asia

Jonah Traaseth is the executive director of Spero. Spero works to prevent sex trafficking through community and economic development. Spero is based out of Minneapolis but does work primarily in South Asia. Spero works toward a self-sustaining model of human trafficking prevention. It works to empower local people to take on the problem of human trafficking by partnering girls homes, safe houses, and other programs with small start-up businesses. These start-up businesses provide economic opportunity for those who have been rescued out of trafficking, and they donate all of their profits to the programs dealing with the problems that trafficking creates. This creates a self-sustainable model that hits at the root causes of human trafficking.
